Mesa Verde (southwestern Colorado, in the Four Corners area) has the largest known collection of Anasazi Indian cliff dwellings, jncluding the amazing Cliff Palace, shown here.

Built mostly in the early 1200's, a hundred years later these magnificant stone towns were abandoned, for reasons known only to their dwellers.
